Telephone systems used in companies are utilized together with telephone exchanges (PBX) to provide internal and external line connections and shared access opportunities. Telephone exchanges offer various options based on features such as incoming external line capacity, internal extension capacity, voice recording, and conferencing.

The most common cause of failure in telephone exchanges is the burning of the mainboard due to fluctuations, surges, and high voltage problems coming from the power line. The next most common cause of failure is lightning strikes arriving through the telephone line.

A lightning strike coming from the phone line reaches the exchange through this line and causes it to burn out. It can also reach and damage modems that provide internet access.
