SURGE ARRESTER (SPD) FEATURES

Surge arresters are protection products divided into three categories: high voltage, medium voltage, and low voltage (154KV, 34.5KV, and 220V), which conduct the current pulse generated during lightning strikes to the ground.

Low-voltage surge arresters are also divided into three classes: Class B, Class C, and Class D.

Class B surge arresters: These are protection products installed at the main electrical entrance of a building, with a discharge capacity of 25KA phase-to-ground and 50KA neutral-to-ground at 1.5KV, totaling a 125KA discharge capacity.

Class C surge arresters: These are protection products used at apartment/unit entrances inside a building, with a discharge capacity of 10-20KA phase-to-ground and a total of 40KA at 1.5KV.

Class D surge arresters: These are protection products used specifically for the equipment intended to be protected, with a discharge capacity of 6KA phase-to-ground and a total of 20KA at 1.5KV.

Surge arrester tests are conducted according to the EN61643-11 standard. According to this standard, at the end of 10/350ms and 8/20µs lightning pulses applied to the arrester, it is checked whether the device remains intact.
