LABORATORY EQUIPMENT MALFUNCTIONS

When we talk about a laboratory, it is correct to perceive it as an environment where tests and evaluations are conducted, usually under sterile conditions and at specific temperature and humidity values. Laboratories are frequently visited places for analyzing the general status of any person, product, or substance in solid, liquid, or gas form by subjecting them to various tests.

The calibration of test and measurement devices used in laboratory testing is extremely important. This is because the nominal values determined for whatever is being tested or measured were originally established with calibrated instruments; therefore, tests or measurements must be performed with instruments of the same specifications under identical environments and conditions.

As test and measurement devices have become increasingly electronic, electricity has naturally become one of the primary factors affecting calibration. To prevent erroneous results and ensure that specialized processes are not interrupted, Uninterruptible Power Supplies (UPS) are heavily preferred in laboratories—and this is exactly how it should be.

However, there is an issue that is often overlooked: Power supplies are also affected by electricity and can malfunction. In this case, our single problem doubles: first, without the UPS, our measurement would have been interrupted and our testing device might have failed; now, the cost of repairing the power supply is added to the equation.

Since power supplies in Türkiye are generally marketed outside of their original purpose, users assume that products like UPS and regulators protect against electrical fluctuations or even lightning. In reality, they themselves fail under these conditions. However, this does not change the fact that they must be used where necessary; it should simply be understood that their primary purpose is not to protect equipment against electrical line surges.

Another distinct issue is the neutral-to-ground voltage values of test and measurement devices. Neutral-to-ground voltage is critical for all highly sensitive electronic circuits. When this voltage exceeds 1V or fluctuates by more than 0.2V, malfunctions and calibration shifts can occur in test and measurement instruments.

As Trimbox, we prevent damage to devices—including power supplies and regulators—caused by electrical fluctuations, high voltage, instantaneous overvoltages, as well as lightning strikes and transformer explosions. Additionally, with our GNDSeries neutral-to-ground regulators, we are able to provide you with a stable 1V neutral-to-ground voltage.

Simple precautions sometimes save lives. The best investment we can make for our family, our business, and our environment is protective measures. With Trimbox and GNDSeries, you can be protected from electricity-related damages and electrical contact fires caused by them.
