VOLTAGE REGULATOR
A Voltage Regulator is the general name for products manufactured to prevent electrical energy from continuously arriving at levels that are too low or too high. Regulators do not function during instantaneous overvoltages or rapid fluctuations. They are highly beneficial in underdeveloped industrial zones or rural areas. They are particularly important for ensuring that electrical energy reaches desired levels in rural regions where power is distributed over very long distances from a single transformer.
Regulators are categorized into types such as servo, static, and microprocessor-controlled based on their price and features. Regulators do not perform tasks related to instantaneous voltage fluctuations or overvoltages; in such cases, the regulators themselves can be damaged. They are generally preferred in situations where voltage differences of $-90\text{V}$ to $+50\text{V}$ are continuous. Furthermore, regulators do not provide power when the electricity goes out. Uninterruptible Power Supplies (UPS) are preferred for providing power during outages.
UNINTERRUPTIBLE POWER SUPPLY (UPS)
A Power Supply (UPS) acts as an energy provider during short-term sudden power interruptions for computers, medical devices, life support units, ATMs, and other areas where power failure is unacceptable in the normal flow of life. It encompasses the regulator and performs all its functions. In terms of price, it is significantly more expensive than a regulator. The power supply can also be damaged by overvoltages and instantaneous voltage fluctuations.
TRIMBOX
Trimbox generally functions to prevent the occurrence of overvoltages. It protects all electrical and electronic equipment—especially critical devices like power supplies and regulators—even during extreme voltage fluctuations, including events like transformer explosions and lightning strikes. In situations where energy is continuously low or high, Trimbox is preferred to protect the regulator itself and to handle the overvoltages that the regulator cannot stop. Unlike an Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS), Trimbox does not provide power when the electricity goes out. In places where continuous power is essential and a UPS is mandatory, such as life support units and banks, Trimbox takes on the duty of protecting the UPS.Simple precautions sometimes save lives.
