WHAT IS A SMART HOME SYSTEM?

Smart home systems, which are yet another manifestation of the sentence “Every technology creates its own needs,” can be described as an integrated system control that allows existing technologies to be managed from a single source via remote access. While this definition might sit slightly outside formal literature, it is an accurate depiction.

All products used in a smart home system are already systems and products manufactured to be controlled individually. However, providing remote access to these technologies and controlling them all from a single source makes these systems—which already exist to make our lives easier—even more useful.

For example, if you physically touch and turn on the boiler or air conditioning systems that heat your home only when you arrive, there is a possibility that you will feel cold for a while. But if you control them remotely, you ensure that the environment is ready and at your desired temperature the moment you step inside.

Although smart home systems have many different features, since security and similar systems now provide these features even without a centralized smart home hub, I personally believe the primary appeal lies more in climate control than in other areas.

But is overcomplicating a smart home a “smart” move? Should technology be used only as much as necessary, or should we use every available option? Do the benefits outweigh the disadvantages in terms of initial acquisition costs, maintenance-repair and failure costs, and security vulnerabilities brought by excessive technology?

It is certain that the more independent and simple your life is, the more comfortable you will be. It might be strange to hear this from an electronics engineer, but integrating technology into your life only as much as necessary and not craving more will bring you freedom. In other words, providing remote access for climate control and security in smart home systems while avoiding other unnecessary extras can make you freer and more secure.

It is possible to expand the principle “Every technology creates its own needs” mentioned at the beginning of the article with the principle: “The more technology there is, the more vulnerabilities there are.” It was inevitable that the unmanned production initiated with Industry 4.0 would transition back to production with qualified humans in Industry 5.0. Because if you mechanize everything, you only feed the machines. Do you not know that machines cannot repair machines?

Aside from systemic ones, there is only one source of trouble for smart home system failures: Electricity! Fluctuations, high voltage, and voltage surges lead to many problems, ranging from incorrect commands and unnecessary signals to the burning out of the control board.

As Trimbox, we provide protection for smart home systems against electrical fluctuations, high voltage, and voltage surges. Furthermore, while Trimbox protects your smart home system, it also protects all other electrical and electronic devices in your home.

Trimbox protects your loved ones…

Simple precautions sometimes save lives. The best investment we can make for our family, our business, and our environment is protective measures. With Trimbox and GNDSeries, you can be protected from electricity-related damages and electrical contact fires caused by them.
