ADVANTAGES OF NEW GENERATION SURGE ARRESTERS

NGS: Due to intense curiosity and numerous questions regarding the similarities and differences between new generation surge arresters (NGS) and classic low-voltage surge arresters (SPD), it has become necessary to outline the distinctions between the two.

Classic Class B, C, and D—or alternatively described as Type 1, Type 2, Type 3 or Class 1, Class 2, Class 3—surge arresters provide grounding for the load generated in the system during a lightning strike. However, because they cannot prevent the overvoltage that occurs in the system, various technologies have been developed.

The most important difference is that new generation surge arresters, whose foundations were laid in 2007, incorporate the functions of classic surge arrester + pulse protector + surge suppressor and do not require the “good grounding” that is an absolute necessity for classic surge arresters.

The most prominent features of NGSs are that they contain all classes of classic surge arresters within a single unit and can perform their duty even if there is no grounding.

NGS VS. CLASSIC SURGE ARRESTER COMPARISON

To summarize the comparison between NGSs and classic surge arresters in a few points:

  • NGSs can be used instead of Type 1, Type 2, Type 3 (i.e., B, C, D class) surge arresters and offer this technology in a single product. Standard surge arresters cannot be used in NGS specifications because they cannot provide the extra features required by the specification.
  • Since NGSs perform their protection function without grounding, they offer protection that is not found even in series-connected products worldwide that attempt to protect with a single unit.
  • NGSs offer more effective protection by preventing peaks that may occur between phases through their surge suppression features—a capability not found in standard surge arresters.
  • In cases such as neutral failure (neutral loss), they eliminate the risk of fire caused by voltage rises in unbalanced loads. Working with a residual current device (RCD), especially in gold models, they provide unlimited protection capability.
  • NGSs do not have cartridge costs, and by basing their tests on the protection of parallel loads in the system as an extra measure, they bridge the gap found in the pulse tests of standard surge arresters.
  • They can be mounted to any fuse/breaker output up to 1000A and do not require an extra protection fuse.

NGS (new generation surge arresters) are manufactured in Türkiye under the Trimbox brand and are presented to 75% of the world.

Trimbox branded new generation domestic surge arresters protect your systems and devices with a domestic production rate of 87.87%.

Simple precautions sometimes save lives. The best investment we can make for our family, our business, and our environment is protective measures. With Trimbox and GNDSeries, you can be protected from electricity-related damages and electrical contact fires caused by them.
