Coronavirus is today’s most popular, most feared, and most uncertain topic…

It is a virus that has literally slowed down the rotation of the world, described by the most developed countries as the greatest collective risk of the last century.

Every detail of the virus identified as Covid-19 has been discussed—from the cost of test kits to how many tests should be performed daily—and every aspect has been covered every day in main news, social media, and news programs.

However, if you notice, one topic has never been addressed: Test devices and medical equipment

Since these units cannot tolerate even instantaneous energy interruptions, they are fed by uninterruptible power supplies (UPS), and it is wrongly assumed that they are protected against electrical surges by these power supplies. In reality, power supplies are only responsible for ensuring energy continuity for a limited time, such as 10 minutes, when the power goes out.

Attributing this unnecessary protective meaning to uninterruptible power supplies both endangers the lives of patients in life support units and causes millions of dollars in damages due to electrical fluctuations. These damages include the failure of the power supply itself.

In places like life support units where even an instantaneous power outage is intolerable, surge suppressors that provide protection against lightning and transformer explosions must be used.

The Class B surge arrester applications already used in many hospitals cannot perform sensitive protection; therefore, they should be supported with Class C and D surge arresters, and full protection should be established by using surge suppressors.

Alternatively, sensitive protection can be achieved by using a new generation surge arrester, which possesses the capabilities of Class B, C, and D surge arresters and also includes surge suppression features.
